Our journey began in 1986 with Ocean Pride Fisheries, our parent company, but our story is truly one of a family-owned legacy—where multiple generations have spent both their childhood and adulthood fishing side by side. Since its founding in 1986, Ocean Pride Fisheries has been dedicated to harvesting and processing seafood. In 1999, we became the first Canadian company to harvest and process sea cucumbers from the East Coast of Canada, paving the way for our continued innovation.
Over 20 years ago, Ocean Pride Fisheries embarked on a journey to develop a nutraceutical. After 15 years of dedicated research and development, we launched Bêche, the first “Catch to Capsule” sea cucumber product on the market.
About Our Sea Cucumber: Cucumaria Frondosa
Unlike most sea cucumbers that are bottom grazers, feeding off the ocean floor, Cucumaria Frondosa is a suspension feeder, consuming nutrient-rich phytoplankton from the water column. This diet provides a cleaner, more nutritious profile. Additionally, Cucumaria Frondosa thrives in the cold, deep waters of the North Atlantic, at depths ranging from 30 to 300 meters, setting it apart from other harvested species.
Around 2001, we partnered with Dalhousie University to conduct scientific analysis on the Atlantic sea cucumber. After 15 years of research and development, Bêche Nutraceutical was officially launched in 2019, receiving Health Canada’s NPN certification.
